ANALYSIS BAGHDAD – It was a cold night in Baghdad. I was standing on the roof of Saddam’s information ministry listening to a televised speech by President George W. Bush.
In an election cycle expected to focus heavily on the economy, it's been immigration, and how to handle the millions of undocumented immigrants who reside in the U.S.
The left proving my point. I'm talking about "torture". We were doing what we could to save thousands of American lives. At least here we actually had captured people that were doing whatever they could to kill Americans. And they are the ones we "tortured". Hell, they even had doctors on staff in case it went to far!! This was intended to save American lives, just like the bombing of Japan. So you're saying killing thousands of women and children blindly is O.K., but to waterboard a single person at a time is against our morals???? Your reasoning doesn't hold water.
I've not read much about McCain's experiences in captivity, but I remember hearing he received injuries as a result of his ejection (which was common among the pilots shot down), and from being tortured, more specifically by having his hands bound behind his back, then hoisted off the floor by a rope attached to the wrists, and through a pulley in the ceiling, resulting in the shoulders popping out of socket. I have read Jeremiah Denton's book "When Hell Was In Session", and another POW's book, whom I can't recall his name now, and that was something they went through as well. As bad as this sounds, its really not as bad as some of the other stuff they endured. I remember one pilot's story telling of his 1st day being thrown into a small cell, and his cell mate had a compund fracture on his leg, and rats would chew on his flesh if he tried to sleep. The pilot himself had broken bones from his ejection, and he didn't get treatment either.
I'm not a big McCain fan politically, but I sure can't thank him enough for the price he has paid. Thanks for your service John!
